Natural Cough and Cold Remedy

As I write this blog I am looking out my french doors at the beautiful falling snow. Don’t mind the wintry weather so buckwheatmuch when life allows me to sit and watch rather than having to attempt to navigate through the mess. My Prius, well….not so great in slippery conditions. So as I was  sitting enjoying the serenity, I thought a recipe for a natural cough and cold remedy was in store.

These next few cold weather months leave us more vulnerable to nasty bugs and illnesses and the ingredient list in store bought medications can be a little scary. I have a mixture that I use when I feel a cold coming on, or to help with my cough and congestion. It is pretty simple to assemble and can be kept refrigerated for a few months. It tastes pretty good, no worse than the over the counter versions, and has ingredients you can actually identify .

Natural Cough and cold remedy:

1/2 teaspoon Cayenne
1/4 turmericspices
1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon Ginger
2 Tablespoon Cider Vinegar
4 Tablespoons Water
4 Tablespoons Honey (if possible use buckwheat raw honey- buckwheat is a known cough suppressant)
2 Tablespoons melted organic coconut oil
1 glass jar with lid

Mix cinnamon, cayenne, turmeric  and ginger in cider vinegar and water. Add honey and melted coconut oil and shake well.

Dose: 1 Tablespoon coconutas needed for cough (you can use every 2 to 3 hours as needed).
If you feel run down or like a cold is coming on begin taking before it is full blown to help reduce the “bad” bacteria in your system. These ingredients are natural antibacterial and immune boosting agents.

Be sure to shake well prior to each use. Refrigerate if you do not use with in 3 days.(if you refrigerate you will need to melt slightly in microwave for 10 or 15 seconds in order to shake and combine properly).

I hope this natural concoction helps you get through the wintery months and avoid the lingering germs.
